"Mist Coat" is a watered down coat of paint that a painter & decorator will use for sealing new plaster, generally this is applied (painted on) after the plaster is fully dry and has turned pink in colour. It's important to make sure you get the watered down mix of paint correct and more water than paint, I personally use a 60% water & 40% paint mix, this seals the new plaster fully ready for two or three coats of paint on top, if you do not seal the plaster in this way when you next go to paint the wall or ceiling you stand a good chance that the previous paint layer will peel off with your roller. You will see form the image on the right that part of the ceiling has had a very thin watered down layer of paint applied, I actually did this to a house in Haywards Heath West Sussex yesterday, it had one coat of "Mist Coat" and two coats of Leyland brilliant White Matt paint.
